Business for Life is all about starting your own new business. Even in the initial training learners use their own money in a money making activity, which often becomes the seed capital for starting their new business.

As Patrick Kwova said after the training for Internally Displaced Persons in Kenya:

“I have always thought of employment. I have wasted many years between jobs. Now I see opportunities for business wherever I go. I am equipped in managing a business and have the confidence to start one thanks to Business For Life”

Tabitha and Harun Story

They both struggled on the course, particularly with the money making exercise. Tabitha made a profit of only Ksh 293 and Harun Ksh 980.

However, since the course finished they joined forces and started a food kiosk offering 3 meals per day. In addition, they are doing private catering and selling milk. At the first follow up visit, the BFL trainers reported that the business had a gross profit of around Ksh 60,000 for the month with a net profit of around Ksh 30,000.

Tabitha and Harun are two of the many of the DBSP graduates who have benefited from the one month training, but also from the follow up activities which ensure that they are able to continue to put into practice what they have learned. The follow up visits helped to refine their recordkeeping and problem solving skills.
